IB 7 Technology Project 1- 'Business From A Scratch'

Learning Objectives:
-to create a PowerPoint slide show (with text) using design templates
-to select and use slide transition and animation effects

(1) It was our first lesson, our first time meeting each other and we kicked off with two engaging icebreakers (at the beginning of the lesson), after which we got to know each other even more and better. It was a good sign and a promising start of the term.


(2) Students were excited when I took out a huge roll of toilet paper from my bag. The toilet paper was such an attention getter. I handed the toiler paper roll to the students and told them to take some, between 3 and 8 squares. Not knowing what the toilet paper was for, most of them were super greedy and went for the maximum. A few were cautious and took as little as possible.















(3) I then explained to them that each and every one of them was going to start their own company. They were given 3 minutes to think and to consider. I drew a T-chart on the board for them to write down their company name together with a word to describe their company. These students were creative and innovative.

Hermes' Hut (by Hermes/Elisa) - Souvenirs
CR7 (by Apollo/Zain) - Sportswear

(4) And to start a business, they needed foundation. The toilet paper squares they took, hence, would be their fund to start their company. It was, literally, their 'money'. I had the class monitor recorded down the amount of 'money' each student had.

(5) I then multiplied the number of toilet paper squares each student took with 2. Each student
would then need to come up with that certain amount of words (verbs, adjectives, nouns and etc) to describe their company. I gave them a plain paper to draw a mind map.

(6) After I discussed with them the relevance and suitability of design templates to the content of their presentation, students chose their respective design templates which I downloaded from the internet. With guidance, they had to create a PowerPoint Presentation (3 slides) to describe and to promote their company.

(7) The first slide included their company name, their User-ID and their name. On the second slide, they inserted all the words and phrases they used to describe their company. They also had an extra slide to give any additional information which was the third slide.

(8) They all did a marvelous job. All the PowerPoint Slide Show were beautifully and skillfully completed. Many of them showed extra knowledge and gave extra hard work in finishing their work. Not forgetting some really helpful students who lent their friends their helping hands!

(9) In addition, some students further impressed me when they presented their work. Many of them practiced at home and results showed. They also tactfully answered their friends' questions during Q&A session. Spectacular!

- Project: Catch Me If You Can! Students work in groups to discuss about the school and its compound. They will take photos, learn to insert graphics in PowerPoint and create a PowerPoint Slide Show to present their findings and solutions.
